WHICH STARLINK SYSTEM IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Starlink provides satellite broadband without relying on the traditional copper or fibre connection running into a property. For homes and businesses with poor fixed-line broadband, it can provide a major improvement in usable internet performance.
The choice is now broader because customers can choose between Starlink Standard / Gen 3 and Starlink Mini.
Both need a suitable view of the sky, but they are designed for different types of installation.
PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION MATTERS
- Correct antenna positioning
- Obstruction assessment
- Wall, gable or pole mounting
- Neat external cable routing
- Weather-resistant installation
- Router and Wi-Fi setup
- Mesh networking where required
- Full connection testing
STARLINK STANDARD / GEN 3
Starlink Standard is designed as the main home and business system and is the version used in our recent Newcastle and Northumberland installations.
It uses a separate tri-band Wi-Fi router, supports mesh networking and provides two Ethernet ports. That makes it a strong choice where the Starlink connection will be used as the main broadband service for a property.
Starlink Standard is particularly suited to:
- Family homes and larger properties
- Home offices
- Businesses and commercial premises
- Rural homes
- Streaming and entertainment
- CCTV and smart-home systems
- Homes with many connected devices
BEST FOR PERMANENT INSTALLATIONS
The Standard system gives more flexibility for a larger internal network and is normally our first option for a permanent broadband replacement installation.
Our recent Starlink Gen 3 case study shows real installations completed across Newcastle and Northumberland, including a property that moved from approximately 26Mbps to speeds exceeding 300Mbps.
STARLINK MINI
Starlink Mini is the compact option in the Starlink range. It combines the satellite antenna and Wi-Fi system into a smaller unit, making it easier to use where space and portability are important.
The current Mini uses dual-band Wi-Fi, supports mesh networking and includes one Ethernet port.
Starlink Mini can be a good option for:
- Smaller homes
- Holiday homes and lodges
- Campervans and motorhomes
- Temporary site accommodation
- Farms, workshops and outbuildings
- Remote working locations
- Backup internet connections
COMPACT, FLEXIBLE STARLINK
Mini is designed to be easier to move between locations, but it can also be professionally mounted for permanent use.
A permanent installation can keep the unit clear of ground-level obstructions, improve security and give the cabling a much neater finish.

FREE PRE-INSTALLATION VISIT
Before installing either Starlink Standard or Starlink Mini, we can assess the property and identify the best mounting position.
The survey allows us to:
- Check for a clear view of the sky
- Identify trees, buildings and rooflines that may cause obstructions
- Choose the best wall, gable or pole position
- Plan the cable route into the property
- Discuss internal router and Wi-Fi positioning
- Confirm the brackets, poles and adaptors required
MOUNTING & CABLE ROUTING
The Starlink unit is mounted securely in the agreed position using suitable brackets, poles and adaptors. The cable is routed neatly down the property and brought inside through an appropriate entry point.
External cable runs are clipped securely and planned to produce a clean, professional finish.
WI-FI & NETWORK CONFIGURATION
Installing the antenna is only part of the job. Router location, thick walls, extensions and multiple floors can all affect Wi-Fi coverage.
We can configure the Starlink network, connect customer devices and add suitable mesh Wi-Fi equipment where additional coverage is required.
STARLINK FOR RURAL NORTHUMBERLAND
Starlink can be particularly useful for rural properties where conventional broadband is slow, unreliable or unavailable. Because the connection is delivered through Starlink’s satellite network, it does not depend on the property being close to a telephone exchange, fibre cabinet or fibre-enabled street.
It can suit rural homes, farms, converted barns, cottages, holiday accommodation, workshops, home offices and small businesses — provided there is a suitable position with a clear view of the sky.
REAL STARLINK INSTALLATIONS IN NEWCASTLE & NORTHUMBERLAND
Our Starlink Gen 3 case study covers several installations completed between April and June 2026. One customer moved from approximately 26Mbps download speeds to more than 300Mbps, while another reported over 400Mbps from the main Starlink router.
The project also shows why internal Wi-Fi planning matters. Thick walls and a large extension created a Wi-Fi dead spot, so additional mesh equipment was configured to improve coverage where the customer actually needed it.
WHY THIS MATTERS
A fast Starlink connection is only useful if the signal reaches the rooms and devices that need it.
We look at the complete installation — antenna position, cabling, router location and Wi-Fi coverage.
